Responsibilities
- Accurately verify patient insurance eligibility and submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance carriers.
- Review Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements and handle accounts receivable to resolve denials and underpayments.
- Manage the medical billing cycle, including posting charges, processing payments, and issuing patient statements.
- Communicate effectively with patients, insurance providers, and internal staff to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Utilize EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) to update patient records and track billing status.
- Identify trends in claim denials and recommend process improvements to enhance revenue cycle efficiency.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing, Healthcare Administration, or related field is preferred.
- Certification as a CPC, CPC-A, or CMC is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and claims processing.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health record software.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
