Responsibilities
- Review and submit medical claims to insurance payers (Blue Cross, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.) for accurate reimbursement.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services rendered to prevent claim denials.
- Assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT medical codes to medical records and billing statements.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and initiate appeals processes to recover revenue.
- Manage patient billing inquiries, explain statements, and resolve billing discrepancies.
- Utilize EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems and clearinghouse software to track claim status.
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and internal billing policies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Healthcare Administration or related field preferred.
- Certification as a CPC, CPB, or CCS (Certified Professional Coder) is highly preferred.
- 1-3 years of professional experience in medical billing, coding, or claims processing.
- Proficient in EHR systems such as Epic, AthenaHealth, or Cerner.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Must pass a background check and drug screen.
