Responsibilities
- Accurately verify and update patient demographics and insurance information in the billing system.
- Submit clean claims to insurance payers (Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare) and follow up on unpaid or denied claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Manage accounts receivable, including posting payments and adjusting balances as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding billing inquiries, statements, and insurance coverage details.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient medical and financial information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Reconcile daily transactions and generate accurate reports for management review.
- Collaborate with the coding and collections teams to resolve complex billing issues.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CCA (Certified Coding Associate) is a plus but not required.
- 1-3 years of experience in medical billing, claims processing, or revenue cycle management.
- Proficient in medical billing software (e.g., Epic, Athenahealth, Cerner) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines and medical terminology.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot errors in data entry.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer-service-oriented mindset.
