Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive telephone triage assessments using EHR protocols to determine patient acuity and appropriate care pathways
- Collaborate with physicians and specialists to develop timely intervention plans for urgent and emergent cases
- Document patient encounters with precision in Epic EMR systems while maintaining HIPAA compliance
- Provide clear, empathetic health education to patients regarding symptoms, medications, and home care instructions
- Coordinate care transitions between emergency departments, urgent care, and primary care providers
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives for triage protocols and patient safety
- Maintain accurate statistical data for departmental performance metrics
Qualifications
- Active Kentucky RN license with minimum 2 years emergency room or urgent care experience
- BLS and ACLS certifications required; TNCC preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in telephone triage using standardized assessment tools (e.g., ESI, T-System)
- Exceptional critical thinking skills with ability to prioritize high-acuity cases
- Strong documentation abilities in electronic health record systems
- Excellent communication skills with ability to de-escalate anxious patients and families
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays on rotating schedule
