Responsibilities
- Perform Venipunctures: Safely and efficiently collect blood samples using various collection methods (venipuncture, capillary, etc.) for clinical testing.
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety during the blood draw process.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, process, and transport specimens to the laboratory according to strict chain-of-custody and CLSI guidelines.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and sterilize phlebotomy equipment, including needles, vacutainers, and tourniquets.
- Record Keeping: Accurately document collection data, patient identification, and any adverse reactions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Infection Control: Adhere to all OSHA and hospital safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a sterile environment.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program preferred.
- Certification: Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., ASCP, NCPT) is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred; strong new graduate candidates will be considered.
- Licensure: Current valid driver's license is required for mobile phlebotomy roles.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to de-escalate patient anxiety and work well under pressure.
