Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and efficient venipunctures, finger sticks, and arterial punctures using aseptic technique.
- Greet and prepare patients for blood draws, explaining procedures to alleviate anxiety and ensuring informed consent.
- Verify patient identity and accessibility of veins to minimize discomfort and ensure sample integrity.
- Label, process, and transport specimens to the laboratory promptly following strict quality control standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized phlebotomy station, ensuring all equipment is sanitized and functional.
- Document all collection procedures accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Collaborate with nurses and physicians to resolve difficult draws and ensure timely specimen turnaround.
Qualifications
- Current Phlebotomy Certification (CPT, Phlebotomy Tech, or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred, but new graduates with externship experience may be considered.
- CPR/BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) valid and current.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and infection control protocols.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on patient comfort.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs when necessary.
- Proficient in using computerized data entry systems.
