Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture, capillary draws, and specialized blood collection procedures with precision
- Verify patient identity and maintain strict adherence to HIPAA compliance protocols
- Process specimens using laboratory information systems (LIS) and ensure proper labeling
- Provide patient education on procedures and maintain a calm, reassuring demeanor
- Calibrate and maintain phlebotomy equipment including vacutainers and needles
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to resolve specimen collection issues
- Document all procedures accurately in electronic health records (EHR)
Qualifications
- Current California Phlebotomy Technician certification (CPT or CPT1)
- Minimum 1 year of clinical phlebotomy experience in a hospital setting
- Strong knowledge of OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards and safety protocols
- Excellent venipuncture skills with ability to work with diverse patient populations
- Proficiency in EHR systems and laboratory specimen processing workflows
- BLS/CPR certification from AHA or equivalent
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
