Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary draws on patients of all ages with a focus on patient comfort and safety.
- Label, process, and prepare blood samples for laboratory analysis in accordance with chain-of-custody procedures.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Adhere to strict HIPAA regulations and OSHA safety standards regarding infection control and biosafety.
- Assist with specimen transport and logistics to the central laboratory.
- Interact professionally with patients, explaining procedures clearly to alleviate anxiety.
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives and inventory management for supplies.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Phlebotomy Technologist certification required (NHA, ASCP, or equivalent).
- Current New York State Phlebotomy license.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent manual dexterity.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is required.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with EMR systems.
