Responsibilities
- Specimen Collection: Perform venipunctures and capillary draws on patients of all ages with precision and minimal discomfort, adhering to strict aseptic techniques.
- Patient Interaction: Demonstrate exceptional bedside manner, explaining procedures clearly to alleviate patient anxiety and ensuring a positive experience.
- Data Management: Accurately label, log, and process specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) immediately after collection to prevent errors.
- Inventory Control: Monitor and maintain inventory levels of blood collection supplies, tubes, and equipment, ensuring readiness for daily operations.
- Infection Control: Strictly adhere to OSHA and CDC guidelines regarding infection prevention and safety protocols within the clinical setting.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in proficiency testing and quality control measures to ensure laboratory compliance and high accuracy rates.
Qualifications
- Certification: Must hold a current and active Phlebotomy Technician Certification (e.g., ASCP, NHA, or equivalent) required.
- Licensure: State of Illinois Phlebotomy license required.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED is mandatory; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory or hospital setting is highly preferred.
- Skills: Proven proficiency in venipuncture techniques and handling various blood collection equipment.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and excellent communication skills.
