Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by setting up sterile fields, instruments, and equipment according to surgical protocols
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, sutures, and supplies while maintaining sterile technique
- Count and account for all surgical sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after procedures
- Anticipate surgeon's needs and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions during critical moments
- Manage sterile processing and sterilization of surgical instruments following AORN guidelines
- Document perioperative activities accurately in electronic health records
- Maintain inventory of surgical supplies and restock ORs as needed
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through NBSTSA required
- Minimum 2 years recent experience in acute care OR setting preferred
- Current BLS certification from American Heart Association
- Knowledge of sterile processing standards (AORN, AAMI)
- Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure, fast-paced environments
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional hand-eye coordination
- Excellent communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
