Responsibilities
- Specimen Collection: Perform venipunctures and capillary draws with high accuracy and minimal patient discomfort.
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients, explain procedures, and ensure a positive and reassuring experience.
- Data Entry: Accurately label, process, and log blood samples into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and proper calibration of phlebotomy equipment and workstations.
- Quality Control: Adhere to strict safety protocols and regulatory standards (CLIA, HIPAA) to ensure compliance.
- Collaboration: Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff regarding patient needs and specimen viability.
Qualifications
- Certification: Must possess a current and valid ASCP or NCPT certification.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of hands-on phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting.
- Licensure: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients of all backgrounds.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to data entry and specimen handling to prevent errors.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program preferred.
