Responsibilities
- Perform Venipunctures: Accurately collect blood samples via venipuncture and capillary draws using various techniques.
- Patient Interaction: Ensure patient comfort and safety during the collection process by explaining procedures clearly and answering questions.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, process, and transport specimens to the laboratory in accordance with strict quality control and safety protocols (CLIA, HIPAA).
- Inventory Management: Monitor and restock supplies, including tourniquets, needles, and collection tubes, ensuring a sterile and efficient workflow.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and sanitize phlebotomy equipment and workstations daily to prevent cross-contamination.
- Data Entry: Accurately record patient information and test results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Qualifications
- Certification: Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., ASCP, CPT, NHA) required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred; Direct Hire candidates with extensive experience are encouraged to apply.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology; proficiency in venipuncture techniques.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, ability to work well under pressure, and a high degree of patience and empathy.
- Valid Driver's License: Required for potential travel to satellite locations or off-site events.
