Responsibilities
- Review and verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits to ensure accurate billing.
- Accurately code medical procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Submit clean claims to insurance payers and follow up on unpaid claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Manage patient accounts, process payments, and handle patient inquiries regarding invoices.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and HIPAA guidelines.
- Collaborate with collections agencies and healthcare providers to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Generate and analyze financial reports to identify trends and improve revenue cycle performance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Certification as a CBCS, CPC, or CMC is a strong plus.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing and claims processing.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Practice Management software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner).
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with patients and insurance companies.
