Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the sterile field for surgical procedures, ensuring all instruments and supplies are properly counted and accounted for.
- Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments, retracting tissue, and applying sterile dressings.
- Monitor patients' vital signs throughout the procedure and communicate any significant changes to the surgical team immediately.
- Handle and transport surgical specimens accurately to the pathology department.
- Adhere to strict infection control and sterilization protocols to maintain a safe surgical environment.
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, anesthesiologists, and surgeons to ensure efficient workflow.
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) certification required.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in a hospital or outpatient surgical center setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical anatomy, and sterilization processes.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
