Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors in a professional manner, checking them in and updating patient information in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Assist physicians and nurse practitioners with patient examinations, taking vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight), and documenting results accurately.
  • Prepare examination rooms for patient visits, ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are sterilized and ready.
  • Perform basic phlebotomy and point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose, urine dipsticks) as directed by the provider.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments, managing patient reminders, and handling incoming phone calls and messages.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations and office policies.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as filing medical records, processing insurance verifications, and handling billing inquiries.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of a Medical Assistant program is a plus but not required for entry-level candidates.
  • Must be willing to obtain Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or NCMA) within 6-12 months of employment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact compassionately with patients of all backgrounds.
  • Basic computer literacy and proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) software is preferred.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation (preferred for on-site duties).
