Responsibilities
- Verify patient demographics and insurance eligibility to ensure billing accuracy.
- Prepare and submit medical claims (CMS-1500) to insurance carriers electronically.
- Follow up on unpaid and denied claims, and manage the appeals process.
- Manage patient accounts, including posting payments, adjustments, and generating statements.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding billing inquiries and account balances.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of billing transactions and financial reports.
- Stay updated on changing insurance regulations and coding updates.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing, Coding, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, claims processing, or revenue cycle management.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS).
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and billing software (e.g., AthenaHealth, Epic, or equivalent).
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
