Responsibilities
- Claims Processing: Accurately prepare and submit medical claims to insurance payers (Medicare, Medi-Cal, private insurers) using electronic and manual billing systems.
- Code Management: Review medical records and assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes to ensure compliance with HIPAA and coding guidelines.
- Accounts Receivable: Monitor outstanding claims, identify denials, and appeal rejected claims to maximize revenue collection.
- Patient Invoicing: Generate and send patient statements, explain billing codes, and resolve payment discrepancies.
- Compliance: Maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information (PHI) and adhere to all regulatory compliance standards.
- Reporting: Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports on billing performance and revenue cycle metrics.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Healthcare Administration or Medical Billing preferred.
- Certification: CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or COC (Certified Outpatient Coder) certification is a strong plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and claims processing.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in medical billing software (Epic, Athenahealth, or Cerner) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of HCPCS, CPT, ICD-10-CM coding, and payer guidelines.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with patients and insurance providers.
