Responsibilities
- Claims Management: Accurately prepare, code, and submit medical claims to insurance carriers (Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial) in a timely manner to maximize reimbursement.
- Patient Billing: Generate and send patient statements, collect payments, and resolve billing inquiries to ensure a positive patient experience.
- Insurance Verification: Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services to prevent claim denials and financial discrepancies.
- Accounts Receivable: Monitor and follow up on unpaid or delayed claims, appeal denials, and work to reduce the A/R aging.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain organized and accurate records of billing transactions, patient files, and financial reports.
- Compliance: Ensure all billing practices comply with HIPAA regulations and internal financial policies.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Healthcare Administration or related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in medical billing, medical coding, or healthcare finance.
- Certification: CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, AthenaHealth) and medical billing software.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and insurance representatives.
