Responsibilities
- Verify and process medical insurance claims accurately using CMS-1500 forms and electronic transmission.
- Submit claims to various insurance payers (Blue Cross, Aetna, UnitedHealth, etc.) and actively follow up on pending payments.
- Research, appeal, and resolve denied or rejected claims to maximize reimbursement rates.
- Maintain accurate patient billing records and manage the accounts receivable aging report.
- Collaborate closely with medical coders and front-office staff to resolve billing discrepancies and coding errors.
- Generate and review monthly financial statements and operational reports.
- Assist patients with billing inquiries, explanation of benefits (EOB), and payment arrangements.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing or Health Administration preferred.
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or COC (Certified Outpatient Coder) certification is a strong plus.
- 1-3 years of professional experience in medical billing and claims processing.
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Practice Management software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth).
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
