Responsibilities
- Accurately code medical procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10 and CPT guidelines.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance carriers (Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare) via electronic billing systems.
- Monitor claims status, follow up on unpaid claims, and appeal denials to maximize revenue.
- Review and reconcile patient accounts, including payments, copays, and outstanding balances.
- Communicate with patients and insurance companies regarding billing inquiries and account statements.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and internal coding standards.
- Maintain and update patient records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing, Coding, or Health Administration preferred.
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CPHON certification is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing, claims processing, or revenue cycle management.
- Proficiency with EHR software (Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner) and practice management systems.
- Strong working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pharmacology.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for customer interaction.
