Responsibilities
- Verify patient demographics and insurance information to ensure accuracy.
- Code medical procedures and diagnoses accurately using ICD-10 and CPT guidelines.
- Submit claims to insurance carriers electronically via clearinghouse or manual follow-up.
- Follow up on unpaid claims, appeals, and denials to resolve outstanding balances.
- Prepare and send patient statements and collect payments.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance standards (HIPAA).
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing or medical office administration.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth) and billing software.
- CPC or CPT coding certification is a significant plus.
