Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to the provision of services to minimize claim denials.
- Accurately assign medical codes (ICD-10, CPT) and submit claims to insurance payers electronically and via paper.
- Monitor claim status, follow up on unpaid or delayed claims, and initiate appeals for denied claims.
- Maintain and update patient medical records and billing documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding billing questions, statements, and financial responsibilities.
- Collaborate with the collections team to ensure outstanding balances are addressed professionally.
- Utilize billing software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth) to generate reports and track revenue cycle metrics.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing, Health Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Certification as a CPC, CMB, or RHIA is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing, medical coding, or medical records.
- Strong working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with EHR/EPM systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail and high-level organizational skills.
- Strong analytical problem-solving abilities and ability to meet deadlines.
