Responsibilities
- Accurately submit and follow up on medical claims to various insurance payers (Blue Cross, United Health, etc.) using electronic billing systems.
- Review and verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits to minimize claim denials.
- Responsible for coding diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Manage accounts receivable by identifying and collecting outstanding balances.
- Analyze denied claims to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the practice management system.
- Communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers regarding billing inquiries.
Qualifications
- Certification (CPC, CBCS, or RHIT) preferred but not mandatory.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management.
- Proficient in medical billing software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner).
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations and healthcare compliance standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot billing issues.
- Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field is a plus.
