Responsibilities
- Accurately verify and update patient demographic and insurance information to ensure proper billing eligibility.
- Prepare and submit medical claims to insurance carriers (Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare) using electronic systems (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth).
- Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on unpaid claims, and resolve billing denials in a timely manner.
- Review and code medical records using ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines to ensure compliance and maximize reimbursement.
- Communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and internal staff regarding billing inquiries and account status.
- Reconcile daily cash postings and maintain accurate financial records.
- Assist in the training of junior billing staff and ensure adherence to HIPAA compliance standards.
Qualifications
- Certification such as CPC, CMA, or RHIT preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management.
- Strong working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to spot discrepancies in data.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid Alaska driver's license may be required for occasional in-office visits.
