Responsibilities

  • Accurately verify and update patient demographic and insurance information to ensure proper billing eligibility.
  • Prepare and submit medical claims to insurance carriers (Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare) using electronic systems (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth).
  • Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on unpaid claims, and resolve billing denials in a timely manner.
  • Review and code medical records using ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines to ensure compliance and maximize reimbursement.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and internal staff regarding billing inquiries and account status.
  • Reconcile daily cash postings and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Assist in the training of junior billing staff and ensure adherence to HIPAA compliance standards.

Qualifications

  • Certification such as CPC, CMA, or RHIT preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management.
  • Strong working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software.
