Responsibilities
- Review and verify medical insurance claims (CMS-1500) to ensure accuracy and compliance before submission.
- Manage the entire claims process, from initial submission to resolution of denials and appeals.
- Communicate effectively with patients, insurance carriers, and healthcare providers to resolve billing inquiries and payment issues.
- Update patient records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, ensuring all financial and demographic data is current.
- Analyze accounts receivable aging reports to identify trends and implement strategies for faster collections.
- Stay up-to-date with changing healthcare regulations, coding updates (ICD-10, CPT), and payer policies.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA compliance and confidentiality standards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing, Coding, or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of hands-on experience in medical billing and claims processing.
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner) and practice management software.
- Excellent attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
