Responsibilities
- Review and verify patient demographics and insurance eligibility to ensure accuracy before claim submission.
- Accurately code medical procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines.
- Submit claims to insurance carriers (commercial, Medicaid, Medicare) electronically via clearinghouse.
- Monitor claim status, follow up on unpaid or rejected claims, and initiate appeals processes.
- Post payments and manage patient account receivables, including sending statements and collecting balances.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and internal compliance policies.
- Collaborate with the billing team to identify trends in denials and improve revenue cycle efficiency.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Health Information Technology or Medical Billing preferred.
- Certification as a CPC, CPC-H, or CCA is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and claims processing.
- Proficient in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, AthenaHealth, or Cerner.
- Strong working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail to minimize errors.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with patients and insurance representatives.
