Responsibilities
- Verify and update patient insurance information and eligibility in real-time systems.
- Prepare and submit clean claims to insurance payers using CMS-1500 forms and electronic transactions (837).
- Follow up on unpaid claims and appeal denied claims to maximize revenue recovery.
- Generate and send patient invoices, explain billing statements, and collect payments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date billing records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with the billing team to identify trends and improve overall revenue cycle performance.
- Assist with month-end close processes and financial reporting as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Medical Billing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or COC (Certified Outpatient Coder) certification is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing, claims processing, or revenue cycle management.
- Proficiency with EHR/EMR software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, Cerner) and billing clearinghouses.
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for patient interactions.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting with high attention to detail and accuracy.
