Responsibilities
- Collection of Specimens: Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws with precision, adhering to strict safety and sanitation protocols.
- Patient Interaction: Interact professionally and empathetically with patients of all ages, explaining procedures and ensuring a comfortable experience.
- Sample Management: Properly label, process, and transport blood samples to the laboratory for analysis while maintaining strict chain-of-custody procedures.
- Documentation: Accurately record patient information, test results, and specimen details in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and sterilize phlebotomy equipment and workstations to ensure a safe clinical environment.
- Inventory Control: Monitor and restock supply levels of blood collection tubes, needles, and other necessary materials.
- Collaboration: Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff to ensure seamless patient care.
Qualifications
- Certification: Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., ASCP, NHA, or equivalent) is required.
- Education: High school diploma or GED is mandatory; graduation from an accredited Phlebotomy program is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical phlebotomy experience is highly preferred.
- Licensure: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.
- Skills: Strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Computer Proficiency: Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) are desired.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
