Job Summary:

The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for collecting blood samples from patients for the purpose of medical testing, research, or donation. You will play a critical role in the diagnostic process by ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages with precision and care.
  • Verify patient identities and ensure all necessary paperwork and consent forms are completed accurately.
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols and infection control standards (OSHA guidelines).
  • Label, sort, and transport specimens to the laboratory for processing efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including proper disposal of sharps and biohazardous materials.
  • Assist patients by explaining procedures, answering questions, and alleviating anxiety regarding blood draws.
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, doctors, and lab personnel regarding patient status and specimen quality.

Qualifications

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients and staff.
