Responsibilities
- Perform Venipuncture: Draw blood samples from patients using venipuncture or micro-collection techniques safely and efficiently.
- Patient Care: Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the collection process, answering questions and explaining procedures.
- Sample Management: Properly label, log, and process blood samples for laboratory analysis, maintaining strict chain-of-custody protocols.
- Infection Control: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including OSHA standards and hospital policies regarding biohazard disposal.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and sterilize phlebotomy equipment and workstations to ensure readiness for daily operations.
- Record Keeping: Accurately update patient medical records and log test results in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) from a recognized body (e.g., ASCP, NHA, ASPT).
- Licensure: Valid California State Phlebotomy license or eligibility for licensure.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Phlebotomy training program preferred.
- CPR Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting preferred.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent dexterity, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
