Responsibilities
- Perform Venipunctures: Draw blood samples from patients using standard venipuncture techniques and safety protocols.
- Patient Preparation: Verify patient identity, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort before and during the blood draw.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, process, and transport blood samples to the laboratory while maintaining chain-of-custody.
- Infection Control: Adhere strictly to sterilization standards and aseptic techniques to prevent infection.
- Record Maintenance: Accurately document patient information, blood collection times, and test results in electronic health records.
- Collaboration: Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff to ensure seamless patient care.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current and valid Phlebotomy certification (e.g., CPT, ASPT, NCPT) required.
- Licensure: State of Maryland Phlebotomy license or permit.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in both capillary and venous blood collection.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-centric approach.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform repetitive motions.
