Responsibilities

  • Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all age groups with a focus on accuracy and patient comfort.
  • Process, label, and transport blood specimens to the laboratory in strict accordance with CLIA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and sterilize phlebotomy equipment after every use.
  • Gather patient information, verify identity, and accurately complete all required documentation and consent forms.
  • Assist in inventory management by monitoring stock levels of blood collection supplies and notifying supervisors of shortages.
  • Handle difficult draws and patients with patience and professionalism, ensuring a positive experience.
  • Collaborate with nurses and lab technicians to ensure timely processing of test results.

Qualifications

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification required.
  • Current North Carolina Phlebotomy license or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience preferred; new graduates with externship hours are encouraged to apply.
