Responsibilities
- Perform Venipunctures: Expertly perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages, ensuring high collection success rates.
- Patient Interaction: Interact professionally and empathetically with patients to minimize anxiety and ensure a positive healthcare experience.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, process, and transport blood specimens to the laboratory for analysis, adhering to strict chain-of-custody protocols.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and sterilize phlebotomy equipment, including needles, tourniquets, and collection tubes.
- Record Keeping: Accurately document patient information, collection times, and results in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Infection Control: Adhere strictly to all safety and infection control policies to protect both patients and staff.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and manage stock levels of phlebotomy supplies, ordering replacements as needed.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) from an accredited body (e.g., ASCP, NHA) is required.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical phlebotomy experience in a hospital or outpatient setting.
- Licensure: Valid North Carolina Phlebotomy license is required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with computer systems and electronic health records (EHR) is highly desirable.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain procedures clearly to patients.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and possess fine motor skills for handling small instruments.
