Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary draws on patients of all ages with the highest level of accuracy and patient comfort in mind.
- Verify patient identity and accurately label blood samples to ensure chain of custody integrity.
- Manage patient flow efficiently in the phlebotomy area, minimizing wait times and ensuring a positive experience.
- Maintain equipment and workstations, ensuring all phlebotomy supplies are sanitized and stocked according to safety protocols.
- Process and transport specimens to the laboratory promptly, adhering to all chain-of-custody and safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively with patients, nurses, and lab personnel to clarify instructions and address concerns.
- Document patient data accurately in electronic health records (EHR) and tracking systems.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Phlebotomy Specialist certification required.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification through the American Heart Association is mandatory.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical phlebotomy experience preferred; new graduates with externships are encouraged to apply.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with diverse patient populations.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs as required by the role.
- Proficiency with computer systems and electronic medical records.
