Responsibilities
- Precisely collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture or capillary puncture techniques.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the blood draw process, answering any questions they may have.
- Properly label, log, and transport specimens to the laboratory for testing in compliance with chain of custody requirements.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety protocols, including OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain a clean, sterile, and organized work environment; sterilize and maintain phlebotomy equipment.
- Communicate effectively with patients, nurses, and physicians to ensure accurate data collection and patient education.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and continuous process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in a clinical or laboratory setting is highly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-centric approach.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
