Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections with minimal patient discomfort
- Process, label, and transport specimens following strict protocols
- Maintain sterile equipment and exam rooms per OSHA standards
- Verify patient identities and prepare specimens for laboratory testing
- Document procedures accurately in electronic health records (EHR)
- Provide patient education on pre-test preparation procedures
- Collaborate with lab staff to ensure timely test processing
Qualifications
- Current Illinois Phlebotomy Technician certification (required)
- Minimum 1 year clinical experience in phlebotomy
- Strong knowledge of venipuncture techniques and specimen handling
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to calm nervous patients
- Proficiency with EHR systems and specimen tracking software
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
- Valid CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts including weekends
