Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary punctures on patients of all ages using aseptic technique.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the collection process, explaining procedures clearly.
- Label, log, and prepare blood samples for transport to the laboratory for analysis.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and laboratory safety protocols.
- Verify patient identity and medical information before collection to prevent errors.
- Assist with inventory management of phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff to ensure accurate specimen handling.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent experience is required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Technology preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a calm demeanor.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to put patients at ease.
- Valid driver’s license (if required for travel to satellite locations).
