Responsibilities
- Review and verify patient demographic and insurance information for accuracy prior to claim submission.
- Prepare and submit medical claims to insurance payers using the CMS-1500 form and electronic transmission (837p).
- Follow up on unpaid claims, manage appeals processes, and resolve denials effectively to maximize revenue.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and ensure timely collection of payments.
- Communicate with patients regarding billing inquiries, statements, and financial responsibility.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure complete and accurate documentation is on file.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing healthcare regulations and coding guidelines.
Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on experience in medical billing or revenue cycle management.
- Strong working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and practice management software (e.g., Epic, AthenaHealth, or Greenway).
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic communication tools.
