Responsibilities
- Verify and accurately enter patient demographic and insurance information into the billing system.
- Submit clean claims to insurance carriers (Blue Cross, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, etc.) via electronic and paper methods.
- Monitor claim status, follow up on unpaid claims, and manage the appeals process for denials.
- Reconcile accounts receivable, prepare monthly financial reports, and communicate with patients regarding outstanding balances.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA privacy standards and internal compliance protocols.
- Collaborate with coding and collections teams to resolve complex billing issues.
- Update patient records and ensure the accuracy of medical billing documentation.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Medical Billing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Previous experience in medical billing, claims processing, or medical office administration (1-3 years minimum).
- Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to detect errors in data entry and documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with patients and insurance representatives.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with a high degree of self-motivation.
