Responsibilities
- Prescription Processing: Accurately verify, prepare, and dispense prescription medications following doctor's orders and legal regulations.
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, place orders for pharmaceutical supplies, and manage returns or expired medications.
- Patient Assistance: Provide courteous and accurate information to patients regarding their prescriptions, dosages, and potential drug interactions.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhere strictly to HIPAA guidelines, state pharmacy laws, and hospital protocols to ensure patient privacy and safety.
- Quality Control: Perform routine inspections of medication storage areas to ensure proper temperature and sanitation standards are met.
- Documentation: Maintain precise and up-to-date patient records and medication logs within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Qualifications
- Certification: Current certification as a Pharmacy Technician (PTCB or ExCPT) required.
- Licensure: Active Washington, DC Pharmacy Technician license required.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting preferred.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent mathematical skills, and proficiency in computer systems.
- Communication: Superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients and staff.
