Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws with precision and minimal patient discomfort
- Process and transport specimens to laboratory while maintaining chain of custody protocols
- Ensure accurate patient identification and sample labeling per HIPAA guidelines
- Calibrate and maintain phlebotomy equipment including vacuum systems and centrifuges
- Train junior phlebotomists on advanced techniques and emergency procedures
- Conduct quality assurance audits and implement process improvements
- Collaborate with medical teams to optimize specimen collection workflows
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of phlebotomy experience in a high-volume clinical setting
- Certification as Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA)
- Expertise in pediatric, geriatric, and difficult venipuncture procedures
- Current CPR/BLS certification from American Heart Association
- Proficiency in LIS/HIS systems and electronic documentation
- Strong knowledge of OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards
- Exceptional communication skills and cultural competency
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced emergency department environments
