Responsibilities
- Prepare sterile fields and surgical instruments for complex procedures including orthopedic, neuro, and general surgeries
- Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments, sutures, and sterile supplies
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques and sterilization protocols per OSHA and AORN standards
- Inventory and manage surgical equipment, anticipating needs for 20+ daily procedures
- Coordinate with anesthesia and circulating nurses to ensure seamless patient transitions
- Participate in continuous process improvement initiatives for OR efficiency
- Maintain accurate documentation for surgical counts and instrument tracking
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent certification required
- Minimum 2 years recent OR experience in tertiary hospital setting
- Expertise in orthopedic, neuro, and general surgical instrumentation
- BLS certification with current CPR training
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and sterile processing equipment
- Ability to stand 8+ hours with precise manual dexterity under pressure
- Strong teamwork skills with ability to anticipate surgeon needs proactively
- Willingness to work rotating weekends and on-call shifts
