Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain the operating room environment, ensuring strict adherence to sterile field protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Assist surgeons and nurses during procedures by anticipating their needs and passing instruments and supplies efficiently.
  • Monitor patient vital signs and report any significant changes to the charge nurse or surgeon immediately.
  • Properly sterilize, assemble, and handle surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies using autoclave and other sterilization methods.
  • Document patient information, surgical procedures, and instrument counts accurately and in compliance with hospital policies.
  • Manage waste disposal and ensure the OR is cleaned and restocked between cases.

Qualifications

  • Certified Surgical Technician (CST) credential required; Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are mandatory.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a hospital or surgical setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of aseptic technique, surgical procedures, and anatomy.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and the ability to lift and move equipment as needed.
