Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the operating room environment, ensuring strict adherence to sterile field protocols and safety guidelines.
- Assist surgeons and nurses during procedures by anticipating their needs and passing instruments and supplies efficiently.
- Monitor patient vital signs and report any significant changes to the charge nurse or surgeon immediately.
- Properly sterilize, assemble, and handle surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies using autoclave and other sterilization methods.
- Document patient information, surgical procedures, and instrument counts accurately and in compliance with hospital policies.
- Manage waste disposal and ensure the OR is cleaned and restocked between cases.
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technician (CST) credential required; Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are mandatory.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a hospital or surgical setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of aseptic technique, surgical procedures, and anatomy.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and the ability to lift and move equipment as needed.
