Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up equipment, and ensuring sterile environments
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, retracting tissues, and managing supplies
- Maintain accurate surgical counts and documentation according to hospital protocols
- Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning, draping, and skin preparation
- Collaborate with anesthesia and nursing teams to ensure seamless perioperative care
- Handle biohazardous materials and surgical waste according to safety standards
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
- Associate degree or certificate from accredited surgical technology program
- Minimum 1 year recent OR experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of sterile processing and aseptic techniques
- Ability to anticipate surgeon needs during fast-paced procedures
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and stand for extended periods
- Current BLS certification
