Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms with sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring a safe environment for surgical procedures.
- Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments and sterile supplies, anticipating their needs to streamline the workflow.
- Monitor and handle patient specimens accurately for laboratory analysis.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery to ensure zero retention, prioritizing patient safety.
- Position patients safely on the operating table and apply drapes and sterile fields to create the correct operative field.
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and hospital infection control policies.
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team to ensure seamless coordination during procedures.
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
- 1-3 years of experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center setting.
- Strong knowledge of surgical anatomy, aseptic technique, and sterilization processes.
- Ability to stand for long periods and work varying shifts, including nights and weekends.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and surgical equipment.
