Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms, sterilize equipment, and maintain sterile environments according to OSHA standards
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, retracting tissues, and managing supplies
- Monitor inventory levels and restock surgical supplies while maintaining cost-efficiency
- Document procedural details accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Collaborate with anesthesia and nursing teams to ensure seamless patient care transitions
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and safety protocol reviews
- Maintain continuous professional development through required certifications
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent certification required
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in general surgery specialties
- Knowledge of sterile processing protocols and instrument sterilization methods
- Proficiency in EHR documentation systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner)
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations
- Strong attention to detail and ability to function in high-pressure environments
- New Mexico Surgical Technologist license or ability to obtain within 30 days
- CPR/BLS certification from American Heart Association
