Responsibilities
- Assess patient calls via telephone and triage based on medical urgency using standardized protocols
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to coordinate patient care and disposition
- Document patient interactions accurately in EMR systems with precise clinical details
- Provide clear, compassionate guidance to patients regarding care pathways and next steps
- Monitor and track wait times to optimize department efficiency and patient flow
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives for triage protocols
Qualifications
- Active RN license in California with current BLS certification
- Minimum 2 years of emergency department or urgent care experience
- Proficiency in telephone triage protocols (e.g., ESI, Manchester)
- Strong clinical assessment skills with ability to recognize critical conditions
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to de-escalate anxious callers
- EMR system proficiency (Epic preferred)
- Ability to work flexible shifts including nights and weekends
