Responsibilities
Dispense and Verify Prescriptions: Accurately prepare and package prescription medications for patients and hospital staff while verifying orders for accuracy and appropriateness.Patient Interaction: Provide exceptional customer service by answering questions regarding medications, providing usage instructions, and resolving inquiries.Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels of pharmaceuticals, order supplies as needed, and conduct monthly inventory audits to ensure compliance.Record Keeping: Maintain up-to-date patient profiles, medication histories, and insurance records within the pharmacy management system.Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all state and federal laws, HIPAA regulations, and hospital policies regarding the handling of controlled substances and patient data.Quality Assurance: Assist in the quality control process to ensure all dispensed medications are correct and properly labeled.
Qualifications
Certification: Must hold a current Pharmacy Technician certification (PTCB or ExCPT) or be eligible for certification within 6 months.Education: High school diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program is preferred.Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with patients, doctors, and staff.Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to medication preparation and record-keeping to ensure patient safety and minimize errors.Computer Proficiency: Familiarity with pharmacy software systems (e.g., McKesson, Cerner) and standard office applications.Physical Demands: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift boxes of medication (up to 25 lbs) as required by the role.
