Responsibilities
- Perform venipunctures and capillary blood draws on patients of all ages with precision and care.
- Verify patient identities and accurately label blood specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Explain procedures to patients to alleviate anxiety and ensure comfort during the draw.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and OSHA safety protocols at all times.
- Manage and sterilize phlebotomy equipment and supplies to ensure a sterile environment.
- Document patient information and test results accurately in electronic health records (EHR).
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, physicians, and laboratory staff to ensure seamless patient flow.
Qualifications
- Active New York State Phlebotomy Certification (or equivalent) required.
- Previous experience in a clinical or laboratory setting is preferred but not mandatory.
- CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-first approach.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and EMR software.
- Reliable transportation to and from the medical facility.
