Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections accurately and efficiently
- Process, label, and transport specimens to laboratory while maintaining chain of custody
- Verify patient identity and prepare collection equipment following HIPAA protocols
- Assist patients with special collection requirements (pediatric, geriatric, difficult draws)
- Calibrate and maintain phlebotomy equipment in sterile working condition
- Document patient information and collection data in electronic health records
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure optimal patient flow and comfort
Qualifications
- Current Phlebotomy Technician certification (ASCP, NHA, or equivalent)
- Texas Phlebotomy Technician license (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
- Minimum 1 year experience in clinical or hospital setting
- Strong knowledge of venipuncture techniques and specimen handling
- CPR/BLS certification from American Heart Association
- Exceptional communication skills with diverse patient populations
- Proficiency with EHR systems and specimen tracking software
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
